Although we believe there are no rules when it comes to personalizing your unique space, below are guidelines to help you determine the size and shape of your custom rug in different room settings.

For open floor plans, it is recommended that the rug is large enough to fit completely under all four legs of the furniture. For more formal spaces where the couch and chairs are placed against the wall, the front legs of the furniture can either sit on the rug or off the rug completely.

In a dining setting, the rug should be proportionate to the dining table and all chair legs should stay completely on the rug, even when in use. A good rule of thumb is to choose a rug size that allows 2-3' on all sides of the table. This will allow for chairs to move smoothly across the rug.

In a bedroom setting, the rug can be placed either entirely under the bed or under the front two-thirds of the bed. It is recommended to allow several feet on each side in order to start the day off right with a soft and cozy landing underfoot. A great alternative to a large rug in the bedroom is placing runners on each side of the bed.
